Meet the FNLGR Team

Angie Derrickson is a proud member of Westbank First Nation, located in the Syilx Okanagan territory in southern British Columbia. She serves as the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the First Nation Land Governance Registry, a role she was appointed to on June 10, 2024.

Angie brings more than 25 years of experience in First Nation self-government, land governance, land administration, and registry matters. She has been involved in the FNLGR proposal and development since the beginning, supporting the vision for a First Nation-governed land registry system that strengthens land governance and supports First Nations in exercising jurisdiction over their lands.

Angie began her career with Westbank First Nation, where she worked for 17 years in administration, intergovernmental affairs, and lands, including 11 years as Senior Lands Officer. During that time, she supported land administration across multiple governance frameworks, including section 53/60 land management, the Framework Agreement on First Nation Land Management, and the transition to the Westbank First Nation Self-Government Agreement.

Before joining the First Nations Land Management Resource Centre, Angie worked as a Policy Analyst with the BC Assembly of First Nations. In June 2013, she joined the Resource Centre as Training, Mentorship and Professional Development Manager, where she served for 11 years supporting training, mentorship, professional development, and land governance across Canada.

Angie has been actively involved in First Nation governance initiatives throughout her career and has also served as an elected Councillor for Westbank First Nation. She holds a Professional Lands Management Certification from the University of Saskatchewan, an Associate Certificate in Training and Facilitation from the Justice Institute of British Columbia, and a Professional Certificate in Management and Leadership from Royal Roads University.

Alan Cunnane is an experienced program and product management professional with a background in GIS, asset management, technology, and land governance. As Program Manager for the First Nation Land Governance Registry, Alan leads a collaborative, cross-functional approach to supporting the development of a modern, interest-based land registry system for First Nations.

Alan coordinates multiple workstreams, including technology development, policy and regulation, First Nation onboarding, stakeholder engagement, and operational planning. His work supports alignment across the program and helps ensure that FNLGR’s development remains practical, coordinated, and responsive to user needs.

Alan’s approach to project management is grounded in collaboration, trust, agility, and empathy. He is committed to stakeholder-driven solutions, transparent teamwork, and continuous improvement. His leadership style supports diverse voices, practical problem-solving, and sustainable outcomes.
With more than 15 years of experience managing large-scale projects and product portfolios, Alan has worked extensively in the technology and infrastructure sectors. His expertise in GIS and data-driven decision-making has supported work in urban planning, asset management, infrastructure investment, and land governance.

Originally from Ireland, Alan began his career in urban planning before moving into product and project management. He is now based in Vancouver and enjoys golfing, playing Gaelic football, kickboxing, hiking, and spending time outdoors with his family and dog, Odie.

Lise Steele is a proud member of We Wai Kai Nation, located on Vancouver Island and Quadra Island.

Lise brings strong administrative, lands, taxation, and governance experience to her role as Executive Assistant with the First Nation Land Governance Registry. Prior to joining FNLGR, she worked with the First Nations Land Management Resource Centre for nine years in various capacities.

Lise holds a certificate in Aboriginal Language Revitalization from the University of Victoria, a Professional Lands Management Certification from the University of Saskatchewan, and a Tax Administrator Certification from Thompson Rivers University.

Lise is married with one grown daughter. Along with their wolf-dog, Shadow, and husky, Daisy, she enjoys life on the Quinsam Reserve. 

Cathy McLeod is a proud member of Nipissing First Nation, located along the north shore of Lake Nipissing in Northern Ontario.  She serves as the Deputy Registrar of the First Nation Land Governance Registry, a role she was appointed to on September 2, 2025.

Cathy graduated from Canadore College in North Bay, Ontario, and holds a Diploma for the two-year Legal Assistant Program. She began her career with the law firm of Trussler & McTavish in North Bay, where she gained knowledge and skill in the field of legal documents and processes before joining Nipissing First Nation as a Land Clerk.  Cathy graduated with a Professional Lands Management Certification from the University of Saskatchewan which led to her eventual role as Land Manager with Nipissing First Nation.

Over her 36 years with Nipissing First Nation, Cathy served in several lands roles, including Assistant Land Manager and, for the final five years of her tenure, Land Manager. Her experience includes land allotments, land leasing, land registration, wills and powers of attorney support, land claim research, Additions to Reserve implementation, and corporate land transactions.  As Deputy Registrar, Cathy brings extensive practical experience in First Nation land administration and registration processes.

Cathy held a position with the Board of Directors of the Ontario Land Manager's Association which she resigned upon leaving Nipissing First Nation.  She also held a position on the Board of Directors for the Gathering Place in North Bay and has volunteered extensively for various causes.

Cathy comes from a family of 7 sisters, 2 brothers and 21 nieces and nephews.  She is blessed with one child, Pierre who is expecting his first child with his partner, Cynthia and Cathy looks forward to finally becoming Gokmis! Outside of work, she enjoys time with family and friends and travelling.  

Cameron Fulton was born in Calgary, Alberta, and developed a deep appreciation for the outdoors through years spent exploring the mountains, rivers, and lakes from the Rockies to the Coast Mountain ranges. The mild winters and outdoor lifestyle eventually brought Cameron to Victoria, where he earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Victoria.

Cameron brings public, private, and international experience to his role as Chief Financial Officer. His background includes work across Western Canada and the United States, as well as international experience with the Canadian International Development Agency in Harare, Zimbabwe.

Together with his wife, Danica, Cameron founded a business that combined travel, culture, and project work while maintaining a strong commitment to work-life balance. After fifteen years of self-employment and raising three children, Cameron pursued further education in accounting, earning a post-degree in accounting and later becoming a Chartered Professional Accountant.

Cameron and his family continue to explore the natural environment and contribute to vibrant communities within the traditional territory of the Cowichan Tribes and Coast Salish people.

Chris Cardamone was raised in Niagara Falls, Ontario, and currently resides in Vancouver, British Columbia. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Labour Studies from Brock University and a postgraduate diploma in Human Resource Management from Niagara College.

As Human Resources Generalist at the First Nation Land Governance Registry, Chris brings extensive experience in human resources, including supporting First Nation communities across Canada. His work focuses on fostering a positive workplace culture through employee relations, recruitment, policy development, organizational growth, and employee support initiatives.

Outside of work, Chris enjoys staying active and prioritizing wellness through walks along the seawall and time at the gym. He also appreciates good coffee, playing golf, and exploring the local food scene. 

Brittany Hall is from Sq'ewqéyl (Skowkale) First Nation in the Fraser Valley and has been working in lands for more than 12 years.

Brittany started with the First Nations Land Management Resource Centre in 2020, working with the Fraser Valley Support Services team. She moved to the First Nation Land Governance Registry in 2024 and now serves as Senior Registration Officer – West.

Brittany brings practical lands experience and a strong understanding of First Nation land governance, land administration, and user support to her role with FNLGR.

Kara Zemel is from Kahnawà:ke Mohawk Territory, just outside of Montréal. Before joining the First Nation Land Governance Registry, Kara worked with the Land Management team at the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke and served as General Manager of Records Management.

While serving as General Manager of Records Management, Kara supported the development of an internal Mohawks of Kahnawà:ke Land Registry Database in collaboration with MCK’s Database Developer and Lands Unit. The system was created to maintain current land transfer information for the community and has been in continued use since 2016.

Kara holds a Bachelor of Arts in Canadian Studies from McGill University, a Certificate in Records Management Fundamentals from the University of Toronto, a Business Administration Certificate through a special program with MCK and Concordia University’s John Molson School of Business, and an Information Privacy Certificate from York University.

Outside of work, Kara enjoys travelling, reading, trying different foods, and attending concerts. She is happy to have her partner, daughter, stepdaughter, and niece join her on these adventures.

Brittney Friesen resides in the Fraser Valley, within Stó:lō and Ts’elxwéyeqw Tribe territory. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice and has worked with First Nation communities for more than 17 years.

A part of Brittney’s career was with Squiala First Nation, where she served as Land Manager. She brings strong knowledge and experience in First Nation land management, governance, policy, and community-based administration.

As Policy Analyst, Brittney supports the development of policies, procedures, and governance tools that contribute to the effective operation of the First Nation Land Governance Registry.

Brittney enjoys spending her free time with her family, being at the rink, exploring nature, and travelling.

Michael Thompson is a Land Surveyor and Engineer with more than 23 years of experience working on land surveys throughout Alberta, British Columbia, and the Northwest Territories. He is based in Treaty 7 Territory in Lethbridge, Alberta.

Michael holds a degree in Geomatics Engineering from the University of Calgary. He is a past Chair of Professional Surveyors Canada and a past Councillor of the Alberta Land Surveyors Association.

Michael’s legal survey experience includes municipal and resource development work in the private sector. He was the owner and operator of Halma Thompson Land Surveys until 2023.

As Land Surveyor, Michael brings specialized survey knowledge and technical experience to support FNLGR’s work connected to land records, survey information, and registry reliability.

Michael enjoys spending time outdoors with his partner, Erica, and their daughter, Chevie, often exploring the southern Rockies.

Reuben Danakody brings more than 30 years of experience in real estate, land administration, property assessment and taxation, regulatory and policy advisory services, technology transformation, and strategic business operations across Canada.

As Regulations and Policy Advisor to the First Nation Land Governance Registry (FNLGR), Reuben provides strategic advice on regulatory, policy, governance, and operational matters, including policy frameworks, legislative and regulatory interpretation, institutional governance, regulatory risk, and emerging initiatives. He works closely with First Nations, government partners, legal advisors, and other stakeholders to support effective Registry administration and strengthen modern, transparent, and responsive land governance systems.

Prior to joining FNLGR, Reuben served as Director and Administrator of the Land Owner Transparency Registry at the Land Title and Survey Authority of British Columbia, where he led the development and implementation of Canada’s first beneficial ownership registry for interests in land. He also served as Director of Integrated Business and Customer Solutions with the City of Edmonton’s Assessment and Taxation Branch, leading business planning, technology enablement, customer service, and operational delivery.

Reuben spent 16 years with BC Assessment, including as Regional Assessor for Vancouver Island, where he held statutory and senior leadership responsibilities. Earlier in his career, he worked throughout the Asia-Pacific region in real estate valuation and investment advisory services.
